After graduating from Austin Peay State University with a B.S. in Communication Arts, Shaylan realized he had a talent for writing while working long hours for a telecommunications call center. He would spend time between calls penning verses that soon became Writings on the Floor (1998). 

Graduate school elevated his hunger for the spoken word. There he and another young poet-in-the-making, founded PeasouP (2000), which helped ignite the resurgence of the Nashville poetry scene.

In the past years, Shaylan has continued to elevate his mindset and create rhythmic prose, while traveling highways and byways hosting and performing at various schools and universities. 

Having only taken writing seriously for a little over five years, he has slowly honed his gift of language and story-telling from the poetry scene to print. Stained-Glass Reflections is his latest offering and most detailed work to date.
